RIBA National Prize for the Arbour Walthamstow/ The Modern House
The Arbour, a 10-unit new-build residential scheme Orford Road, Walthamstow, east London E17, has been awarded a RIBA National Prize.
It is a highly progressive scheme which claims carbon negative, virtually zero waste, avoidance of oil-based products, deconstructible at end of life, the list goes on.
Oh, and also it is highly airtight with minimal thermal bridging.
Our role was to guide the design and build teams to achieve minimal thermal bridging and an impressive 0.3m3/m2/hr@50Pa air permeability.
That’s 20 times better than ‘business as usual’.
Through a series of design workshops over multiple RIBA stages we helped the team refine and improve the construction details and air testing methods.
The airtightness and thermal bridging provide comfort and economy for the resident. They contribute towards the overall sustainability goals mentioned above.
Congratulations to the whole team. Fingers crossed that the project is shortlisted for the Stirling Prize later this year.
Oh, and did we mention its also listing of the week in the Modern House!
